How Does the Squarespace Free Domain Work?

When you subscribe to any Squarespace annual plan (Personal, Business, Basic Commerce, or Advanced Commerce), you receive one free custom domain registration for the first year. This is a real domain - yourbusiness.com - not a subdomain.

What Is Included

One year of domain registration for a supported TLD (.com, .net, .org, and many others).
Free WHOIS privacy - your personal information is hidden from public records.
Free SSL certificate - HTTPS is enabled automatically.
Automatic DNS configuration - your domain connects to your Squarespace site instantly.
Full domain management - configure DNS records, set up email, transfer the domain.

What Is NOT Included

Monthly plans. The free domain is only available on annual billing. Monthly subscribers must purchase their domain separately or use one registered elsewhere.
Additional domains. You get one free domain per annual subscription. Additional domains can be purchased at the standard rate.
Premium domains. High-value domains priced above the standard rate are not eligible for the free offer.

How to Claim Your Free Squarespace Domain

During Signup

Step 1: Start your free trial at squarespace.com.

Step 2: Build your site during the 14-day trial.

Step 3: When ready, subscribe to an annual plan. During checkout, you will be prompted to search for and claim your free domain.

Step 4: Search for your desired domain name. If available, select it. The free year applies automatically - no promo code needed.

Step 5: Complete your subscription. Your domain connects to your site automatically.

After Signup

If you subscribed without claiming the free domain, you can still claim it. Go to Settings > Domains > Get a Domain. Search for your domain. The free credit applies if you are on an annual plan and have not used it yet.

Which TLDs Qualify for the Free Domain?

Common TLDs like .com, .net, .org, .info, and .co qualify for the free domain offer. Many specialty TLDs are also eligible. The Squarespace domain search tool shows which domains are available and whether the free credit applies.

Some premium or high-value TLDs may not be covered by the free offer. If a domain shows a price during checkout despite the free domain credit, it is either a premium domain or an unsupported TLD for the free offer.

What Happens After the First Year?

After the free first year, your domain renews automatically at the standard annual rate:

Squarespace sends renewal reminders before the expiration date. You can enable or disable auto-renewal in Settings > Domains.
