Privacy Policy

What Square.space is run by OK Digital Ltd. This page explains what the site collects when you use the Squarespace template detector or read the blog, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. It is written in plain English rather than legal boilerplate, because a policy nobody reads protects nobody.

What the detector stores

When you paste a website address into the detector, we fetch that page and read its public source code to work out which Squarespace template and version it appears to use. We save the address you checked and whether the site turned out to be built on Squarespace, so that our template statistics stay accurate. Those are public homepages rather than information about you, and we do not store the content of the pages we check.

Information you give us

The contact form asks for your name, email address and message. We keep that message in our own database and send a copy to our inbox so we can reply. It is used to answer you and for nothing else: it is not added to a marketing list, and it is not sold or handed to anyone else.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, this one records some technical detail as you browse:

  • Standard server logs kept by our host, including your IP address, browser, the page requested and the time, used for security and troubleshooting.
  • Google Analytics, which reports pages viewed, roughly which country you are in, your device and browser, and the site that referred you.
  • WeCanTrack, which records when a visitor clicks one of our affiliate links so that a commission can be matched back to that click.
  • A notification script served from okdigital.me that shows recent activity on the site.

Cookies

Four kinds of cookie may end up in your browser here:

  • A session cookie the site itself sets, which keeps forms working and protects them from cross-site request forgery.
  • Small preference cookies that remember you closed a banner, so it stays closed for a few days.
  • Google Analytics cookies that count visits and tell repeat visits apart from new ones.
  • Affiliate tracking cookies set through WeCanTrack when you click a link to Squarespace or another service we recommend.

You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings, and the detector and blog work fine without the analytics and affiliate ones. Blocking them costs you nothing: affiliate cookies pay us, not you.

Affiliate links and commissions

Some outgoing links on this site are affiliate links, including links to Squarespace. If you sign up through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you, and that commission is what keeps the detector free to use. Our disclaimer covers the arrangement in more detail.

Who else sees your data

We do not sell personal information. A small number of providers see some of it because they run part of the site for us: our web host, our email provider, Google Analytics and WeCanTrack. Each of them receives only what it needs to do its job.

How long we keep things

Contact messages stay in our inbox and database while we still need the support history. Records of website addresses checked with the detector are kept for as long as they feed the template statistics. Analytics data expires according to the retention period set inside Google Analytics.

Your choices and your rights

You can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. The quickest route is our contact form, and we answer these requests ourselves rather than through a form letter. If you would rather not be measured at all, blocking cookies or using a tracking blocker stops most of what is described above.

Children

This site is built for site owners, designers and marketers. It is not aimed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

When the site changes, this page changes with it. The date at the top shows when we last revised it, and material changes are made here rather than announced separately.

Questions about this policy, or about the data we hold, can go through our contact page or by email to [email protected]. The rules for using the site itself are set out in our terms of service.
